Finals & Amsterdam

Yes... finals have almost started. I'm stressed. I've written over 30 pages of papers this week. And I still have to study for my finals... ugh.. i hate this time of year. But it'll all be worth it, I'm going to Amsterdam this weekend!!! Me, Artie, Lianne and Meaghan are flying out of Heathrow on British Airways and staying at a 5 star hotel. (i'm treating myself right for my 20th birthday!) It's gonna be a lot of fun. Meaghan has been there before, so she knows what to do (and what NOT to do!). I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm going to be home in a like 10 days.. aren't you excited? I am definately excited to be back home. Can't wait for that Taco Bell... mmm mexican food... i need that. Well, back to studying....

Hope you guys had a good Thanksgiving!! we sure did here in the UK!! we had to teach a couple brits here how we do things in the good ol' US of A

It finally feels like Christmas, beause it's Thanksgiving...! Of course not here in the UK, but over there in the States it is ;). Hope you all have a good one. We're having a group dinner here in the house with the law students. It's gonna be a lot of fun, I don't know who's catering the dinner, but I hear it's gonna be good! A lot of people are cooking their mom's receipes to contribute to tonight.

Kanye West

So I just got back from seeing Kanye West in concert! It was awesome... I had low expectations from what I've heard about hip hop/rap concerts, but Kanye definately delivered. He was great.

I just tallied up the number of pages I have to write for all of my classes over the next 2 weeks, and it came to a staggering 27 pages, plus a powerpoint presentation due next week. Ouch. I was planning on going to Scotland this weekend with Dap and Susan.. but no way can I do both. So this weekend, I'm planning on visiting the Cathedral at Canterbury and go to the market and buy some xmas gifts ;) Alright it's late again...classes tomorrow... uggggg

Random picture time!! This was the best pizza ever...! me and dap found this little shop in venice that sold pizza by the slice for 4 euros each, or the whole pizza for 10 euros.. so of course we got the whole things... and it was amazing, those venecian pizza makers are the best...!

It's getting colder and colder here. I just walked down the street to get some Chinese food and nearly froze. All the trees around here have lost their leaves, and they just look like skeleton sentinels. When we traveled to Stratford-upon-Avon we only had sweatshirt and jeans, and we really needed winter jackets. (definitely picking one of those up over Christmas) We had a 2 hr train ride to get there and the cabins weren't heater or anything, so we all just huddled together in a corner trying to stay warm. I think we all pretty much passed out sleeping on the train, we were so tired from staying up till 3AM the night before. I'm staying up so late now, last night I was up til 4AM. And really it's not like I'm working on papers or anything (like what I should be doing right now) I'm just hanging out, or just getting in from being out on the town. Here in Europe the nightlife starts much later. Clubs here won't even start getting hot until after midnight, although they will be open from like 10PM. In Greece, clubs won't even open until midnight, and they get hot after 3am. It's so different than the States.

Back to Stratford. We got there and explored around the little town. The whole town seems to be built around the Shakespeare museums. There's at least 4 venues for plays in a really small town. There's I think 4 museums, and Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare was buried (pictured below). I did get one souvenir from a Starbucks. I jacked one of the coffe mugs, so now when I'm writing, I drink from it and Shakespeare's pixie dust helps me write. ;) Speaking of writing... I need more coffee, and need to finish this paper....

Shakespeare's birthplace

Holy Trinity Churhc, the eternal resting ground of William Shakespeare

Blese be the man that spares thes stones,
and curst be he that moves my bones.

Hello again -
Just got back from the Italian Alps ...

This weekend was the spiritual retreat. All programs were invited, and most everyone was there. I think 36 came from London, all 55 of Heidelberg, something like 32 from Florence, and about 20 from Lyon. There was a total of 150 of us jammed into this ski lodge (yeah, i know my math doesn't add up, get over it). This whole weekend only cost me 70 GBP which included airfare, food and lodging. We Londoners flew (part of the reason why it was so expensive), the group from Heidelberg took a 10 hr train, Florence took a bus, and people from Lyon got there anyway they could (some took a train, some drove).

Anyways the whole weekend was a lot of fun. I got to see some cool people that I hadn't seen in a while, and I got to see some people again who I never wanted to see in the first place (mostly the entire Heidelberg group). I think the most interesting part of the weekend was just seeing how the different groups interacted. Each program has its own personality & reputation. There's been a rumor floating around among the different overseas programs that the London program isn't very cohesive, that we all don't get along and that we haven't bonded together. Well, i'm happy to say that we smashed that rumor! I think we surprised a lot of people on how close we all are. London is a very different group than all the rest, we have had in the past the reputation of being the anti-social group; the group that really didn't fit in. But we changed that this weekend. We are definately the coolest program ever! =)

Basically this whole weekend was focused on our 'vocation'. One of the faculty at Heidelberg spoke to us a couple times and then we broke up into small groups and discussed it and tried to apply to our lives. I lead a group of 5 other guys, one of whome was my roommate last year (which I think is ironic, and if you know Joey, you'll know why). I was personally against the whole 'vocation' topic, just because it's been talked about at length, and it seemed a stupid topic to be talking about at a spiritual retreat.

I did have a lot of fun though. I pissed off a lot of people from Heidelberg, because they deserved it. =) We had a picture scavenger hunt around the village, played ping pong, created and acted out a skit to make fun of British people, ate Italian food (some of it was pretty good... but some of it was horrible) and just generally had a good time! We had a dance party the last night (which many people from Heidelberg boycotted because 'dancing is a sin').

It's class time!! I'll write more later...hopefully....

A view from out hotel overlooking the valley below and the Alps in the distance.

Our Hotel Vittoria... it's really just a ski lodge. Behind it (you can't see it) is a ski lift and several pretty good runs. I think this is probably more of a local ski resort, it seemed pretty small to me...

Off to Italy...again

Well, I hate to say it, but I'm going to Italy...again... I know, my life is rough =) This time we're flying into Bergamo and staying at this hotel in the Alps for a spiritual retreat. Most everyone from the other closeby internation programs will be there (Florence, Lyon, and Heidelberg). So it'll be interesting to see people again. I'm looking forward to it. Even though we have to leave tomorrow night (or rather friday morning) at 3AM. I guess I'm not sleeping that night. Oh well, I'll sleep a little on the plane and the busride...

I'm not really sure what this spiritual retreat is. I'm sure it's Church of Christ centered. But as far as the activities, sermons, speakers or topics discussed, I have no idea. I actually signed up to be a small group leader (they were desperate), but that's only because then I don't have to answer any of the hard 'spiritual' questions, I just make the other people in my group answer them =)

Right now i'm really looking forward to traveling as much as possible in the next 4 weeks that I'm here. I already have two trips planned out. First is the retreat this weekend, and on December 2 - 6 (one day after my 20th birthday!! woootwooot!) I'm going with a few friends to Amsterdam! We're staying at a 5 star hotel, and I'm pampering myself for my 20th birthday. It's gonna be amazing! My friend Meaghan is coming with me, and she was in Amsterdam over the summer and knows all the cool clubs to go to. It's gonna be a great time.

Hopefully I'll make it to Scotland before I return home... I really want a kilt like my buddies below.... Anyways, I'm heading out, it's 2 AM and i need to get to bed! Later!

Justin, Taylor and Dap, all in kilts all drinkin the good stuff ;)
